The Seattle Chapter of the VR/AR Association is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking new initiative— Jane’s Walk Seattle! In partnership with the Downtown Community Council and inCitu, we will be creating Seattle’s first-ever Jane’s Walk with augmented reality—and we want YOU to be part of it.
Jane’s Walk is a global movement that encourages people to explore their neighborhoods, share untold stories, and use walking as a tool for connection. This June, we’ll transform downtown Seattle into an immersive experience that brings Seattle’s future to life.
Call for Volunteers
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help in two ways:
1. Be Part of the Creation Team (Now–June 7):
Join our weekly working sessions leading up to the event. You’ll collaborate with creatives, technologists, and urban storytellers to shape the AR experience at each location.
2. Event Day Guides (June 7):
Join us on the day of the walk to help guide attendees as they use their mobile devices to access and explore the AR experiences along the route. You'll help people engage with the stories and the tech on-site, one city block at a time.

Learning Innovation Expert, Science and Technology Museum, School of Natural Sciences, University of Patras, Greece
This presentation contains two parts. First, it will describe briefly the concept of grand challenges and specifically the importance of Multimodal Literacies as a grand challenge in a global context. It will focus specifically on Cultural literacy as a critical aspect for international cooperation. Next, specific examples of applications for this purpose will be presented using a) Immersive technologies such as VR, AR and the Metaverse and b) storytelling, playful and gameful design. STEAM applications produced at the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras will be presented to provide starting points for discussion. The presentation will conclude with a call to action and suggestions for additional exploration.
Bio
Dr. Stylianos Mystakidis is an innovator, expert and researcher at the University of Patras, Greece, Adjunct Faculty member at the Democritus University of Thrace, the Hellenic Open University, Open University of Cyprus and Visiting Professor at the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, Italy. He has published over 120 works in peer-reviewed international journals, conferences and books on Immersive Learning, Metaverse, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Playful Design, Gamification, Storytelling, Serious Games, Instructional Design, Artificial Intelligence, Open and Distance Education. His works have generated considerable impact as he is included in the world’s top 2% most influential scientists (Elsevier & University of Stanford’s list, 2023 & 2024) and has received several academic awards. He has international academic teaching experience for universities in Spain, United Kingdom, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and USA. He has participated as a researcher and project manager (PMI/PMP) in 14 international and European projects. His formal studies include a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science at the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Jyväskylä (Finland), MA in Education in Virtual Worlds at the University of West of England Bristol (UK), MSc in Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (Greece) and Postgraduate Certificate at the Open University of Catalonia (Spain).

About Jan Goetgeluk
Jan Goetgeluk is the founder and CEO of Virtuix and the inventor of the Omni, the world’s first omni-directional treadmill that lets users walk and run in 360 degrees inside videogames and other virtualreality worlds. The Future of Speech Therapy: How VR and AI Empower Clinicians and Transform Developmental Learning
Meet the next-generation immersive platform by VIZQ, showcasing unprecedented skill acquisition among children with speech and language delays. This solution also addresses critical issues that speech-language pathologists (SLPs) face while working with schoolchildren with limited time and large caseloads. The Urgent Challenge in Pediatric Speech Therapy
Over 6.5 million school-aged children in the U.S. require speech therapy annually, while 45% of those in need either receive insufficient or no therapy at all due to staffing limitations and high costs. This gap leaves thousands of children struggling to make meaningful progress throughout the school year.
The Solution
VIZQ transforms traditional therapy into an engaging, real-world experience, leveraging adaptive XR to significantly boost child engagement and skill acquisition while reducing therapist overload. At the current stage, a solution offers and deep-tests a single “brush your teeth” activity to demonstrate how the system uses a proprietary, patented methodology to teach daily routines, hygiene, vocabulary, sequencing, and instruction-following.
“Invented by speech therapists, the platform delivers therapeutic sessions between direct therapist visits, enabling children to get unlimited, fun, and personalized practice. Although initially designed for mild-to-moderate autism, a moderate-to-severe child successfully used it, indicating broader potential reach. More user tests are ongoing,” says Benjamin Albaum.
Further Impact
According to Benjamin Albaum, the solution extends the reach of therapists, allowing each professional to oversee hundreds of children a month instead of just a few dozen. Nextly, the platform will feature 40+ targeted activities covering pragmatics, receptive language, and expressive language, allowing therapists to personalize each session to individual needs.
Based on the future AI integration, the platform will offer real-time analytics and deeper insights for SLP’s to track progress and spot emerging challenges quickly. Such personalized therapy pathways will ensure each child’s unique developmental needs are met efficiently.
