TRIVVER Creates the Ad Standard for XR Viewability Metrics

Much like the early days of digital display and video advertising, the “Opportunity To See” continues to be a challenge, especially for the XR space. For example, the current approach to collect the time between a click to launch and a click to end an AR experience is just bad data. We all know that there are countless angles where the user can move their screen off of an AR asset during their AR experience. Trivver has developed a viewability standard by meeting the following three minimum metrics below. We term these criteria a ’T-VIEW’.

SCREEN COVERAGE
How large was the 3D branded object on screen? After all, what good is the object if it's very small?
Trivver believes if the size of an object occupies over 5% of the screen and both minimum requirements are met below, only then should a company be charged for the placed ad.

OBJECT VIEWABILITY
What percentage of the Screen Coverage (above) is actually in view? For example, if the branded object covers 40% of the screen but when the audience viewing it shifts their perspective and now only half that object is in view, this certainly dilutes the effectiveness of the paid placement.

Trivver believes an object needs to be at least 70% or more in view for this minimum requirement to be met.

TIME
How long was the object in view? If the audience terminates the AR experience shortly after opening it, what value does it bring to the company? Chances are, not much, and it’s, for this reason, Trivver does not charge for an ad should this third minimum requirement not be met.

Trivver believes an ad must reach both minimum criteria above and be in view for at least 5 seconds in order for the ad to be valid.

Trivver’s viewability measurement tool is easy to add to any XR content.

Foundry 45 Develops New Virtual Reality Operator Training for Light Rail Network TriMet

ATLANTA – If you’re providing nearly 100 million trips for commuters each year, you want to make sure they’re smooth, safe and problem-free – which means operator training is critical. That’s why TriMet, which provides transit services in the Portland, Oregon, metro area, chose Atlanta’s Foundry 45 to develop virtual reality (VR) training modules that offer all the advantages of real-world experience with increased flexibility and added safety.

TriMet provides light rail vehicle (LRV) operator trainees with classroom plus hands-on training in its rail yard and on its main lines. However, training on the routes themselves needs to be done in a relatively short window of time. And with safety paramount, simulating problems during hands-on training can be difficult. VR training greatly expands the timing and type of training TriMet can provide its operators; trainees are able to learn how to operate LRVs and navigate routes at their own pace and in a safe, simulated environment.

“Virtual reality offers TriMet convenient and highly effective training that also eliminates things like possible equipment damage, vehicle downtime and any safety risks associated with training in a real-world environment,” said Dave Beck, managing partner of Foundry 45, which creates immersive VR training for businesses across the country. “It’s a perfect solution for TriMet’s training needs, and we were delighted to partner with such a forward-thinking organization to create it.”

TriMet piloted the VR training in late October, and feedback from the students who tested it has been very positive. It will officially become part of TriMet’s rail training educational program at the start of 2021.

“VR training offers the benefit of being able to put a student in a situation that would not be safe in real life, like a pedestrian walking across the tracks or an emergency vehicle traveling through an intersection,” TriMet’s Manager of Operations Training Todd Mattson said. “As we develop more virtual reality scenarios based on what our operators actually encounter, it will help keep our light rail system even safer for the communities we serve.”

Realistic VR environments help students learn routes and troubleshoot potential problems

The MAX (Metropolitan Area Express) Light Rail connects Portland City Center with Beaverton, Clackamas, Gresham, Hillsboro, Milwaukie, North/Northeast Portland and Portland International Airport. The VR training is divided into five sections that cover segments of real-life routes.

For those segments, Foundry 45 created simulated environments that include LRV train models, stations, tracks, pedestrians, bicyclists and other road traffic along those routes. Landmarks and equipment have been faithfully recreated in 3D to a level of detail that will help operators quickly recognize them as the objects they’ll see in the real world.

Training, which is conducted via computer and headset, includes simulated activities and situations that operators can encounter, such as obstructed views and gate malfunctions. It also incorporates realistic train and environmental noise, as sound is a key element to creating a convincing immersive environment. A sixth training scenario covers troubleshooting such items as equipment faults and external system failures.

The training allows learners to make mistakes and receive coaching to correct errors. Trainees learn a segment with step-by-step guidance, practice from memory with no guidance, and then take a test, which generates performance data for analysis and tracking by TriMet.

ICEreality – Connecting designers and clients through virtual design spaces

Today’s world is more unpredictable than ever. Designers, architects, contractors, and their clients are all looking for ways to share and validate the accuracy of designs in the safest and quickest ways possible.

Enter ICEreality: ICE software’s solution to connect clients worldwide in cloud-hosted experiences to design their future spaces in real-time. Our software allows anyone at any time anywhere in the world to collaborate in virtual spaces, make instant changes and validate orders together. VR doesn’t need to be a solo space, we’ve created a reality where people can share an experience together. Bringing a social aspect into the working space enables decisions to be made more efficiently and at greater speed.

“We wanted to create a platform that not only virtually captures the details of a client’s future space accurately, but also optimizes communications between designer and client,” explains Ice Edge CTO, Mark Greffen. “With ICEreality and its variety of apps (including virtual reality head mounted display support), stakeholders can meet within minutes, from anywhere in the world, communicating and modifying their design together in our cloud environment before an order is placed.”

ICEreality combines two applications, Create and Connect, that bring together designers and their clients in a shared virtual space. Within ICE software, the ICEreality Create application allows designers to upload their ICE files to the cloud and invite clients to explore it via ICEreality Connect. Designers can host tours with predetermined scenes while clients use their devices as their virtual viewers. Clients gain peace of mind as they explore, measure, request real-time changes, and validate their designs within their ready-to-order files. What clients see and experience is precisely what will be delivered – the file is the order.

“ICEreality is a good blend of function and highly compelling visualizations,” says Bradley Drebit, director of ICE Client Experience. “The application itself represents a lot of the research and development that we have done over the last several years. We wanted to strengthen connections between designers and clients with the help of ICE, and ICEreality demonstrates just how powerful real-time collaboration can be.”

TIME Best Inventions 2020: The Corporate VR Solution Pico Interactive Neo 2 Eye VR Headset

With built-in spatial audio speakers that enable a surround-sound-like experience and integrated cameras to map your environment, the Neo 2 Eye ($899) matches or exceeds other entertainment-oriented headsets in quality and performance. But that’s where the similarities end. Unlike other headsets, the Neo 2 Eye, which is primarily meant for corporate use, features eye-tracking software that can detect where you’re looking. That tech comes in handy for seeing exactly what part of a new product a customer is ogling or helping an employee learn a new skill—so it’s no wonder that some of the headset’s earliest adopters include companies like HTX Labs and Strivr, which develop virtual solutions for professional training. What’s more, the headset has no pesky cables to deal with or sensors to set up to get started. That means users can move freely in their real-world space—without getting yanked back to reality.

How Ophthalmologists Use Virtual Reality (VR) To Analyze Visual Disorders

Pico Ophthalmologists VR.png

Through Partnership with Pico Interactive, Ophthalmologists Tap into Olleyes VRP (Virtual Reality Platform) to Provide At-Home Care

Amid the telehealth revolution, ophthalmologists are at the forefront of change with Olleyes’ virtual reality solution. Today, Olleyes and Pico Interactive announce a partnership to bring even more access to immersive, increasingly remote care. Here are a variety of ways this virtual reality tech is being implemented by ophthalmologists:

  • At Home Care: Patients preferring at-home care will be sent VR headsets to their homes. Doctors then will analyze a patient’s eyes and provide a diagnosis.

  • One Stop Shop: When neurologists perform surgery, patients need to go to an ophthalmologist to get a visual field test done immediately afterward. Now with VR, doctors will hand patients a VR headset and conduct visual tests right at the hospital.

  • Car Testing: With the pandemic, socially distanced care has never been more important. Patients now will head into the office to check-in, get tested in the car with the VR headset and then return the headset for the doctor’s in-person evaluation.

The platform runs on Pico Interactive’s G2 4K headset, bringing crisp 4K resolution and counterbalanced design

Olleyes’ platform runs on Pico Interactive’s G2 4K headset, providing crisp 4K resolution and a counterbalanced design for comfort. Each Pico G2 4K has access to replaceable PU face inserts that are easy to clean and hygienic for mass use – something increasingly important during the pandemic.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 18, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Olleyes, a medical device company developing portable and home-based diagnostic products for eye care, is providing at-home care solutions with its VisuALL VRP virtual reality platform, running on Pico Interactive’s G2 4K headset. This technology allows providers to safely diagnose and actively monitor eye diseases in patients in a remote setting.

VisuALL VRP is a portable visual care testing platform that includes visual field testing, visual acuity testing and much more. The platform combines VR and artificial intelligence technology to give eye care providers a way to remotely test for and monitor common eye diseases. With increased sanitary measures and physical distancing needed in clinics worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Olleyes allows eye care providers to increase productivity, portability and safety.

To diagnose and monitor patients with glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmic diseases, visual field testing is needed. With Olleyes, eye care providers move past the days of cumbersome devices requiring patients to fixate their eyes for several minutes. The VisuALL VRP running on Pico’s G2 4K headset gives providers the flexibility to run tests in waiting rooms, cars or patients’ homes for both convenience and to adhere to current COVID-19 safety protocols.

“While the use of telehealth increased rapidly over the last year, efficient tools for eye care providers remained incredibly limited – until now,” said Dr. Alberto Gonzalez, CEO of Olleyes. “In healthcare, ophthalmologists and optometrists have been heavily impacted by the pandemic, experiencing a loss of 79% and 75% of visits since April respectively. The decrease in patient visits shows the lack of technology adoption within the industry, and our team at Olleyes has set out to innovate eye care with the latest tools. Virtual reality shows great promise, not only to give patients more flexibility and increase sanitary measures but also to boost productivity among staff at clinics.”

In the wake of heightened concern for safety, Pico’s G2 4K headset has access to replaceable PU face inserts that are easy to clean and hygienic for mass use. The headset provides 4K resolution and a counterbalanced design for the comfort of the patient.

“At Pico, we empower healthcare providers such as Olleyes to make it easy to deploy VR. With a wealth of experience in the industry, Olleyes is solving an old problem with new technology that makes visual field testing more accessible than ever. We're excited to help bring VR telehealth to the ophthalmology market,” said Will Winston, US Sales and Partnerships Director at Pico Interactive.

New Realities Helped Made Possible by ThinkReality

vr-girl+Lenovo.jpg

Virtual Reality (VR) technology is a core ingredient of Lenovo New Realities – an immersive, first-person cinematic experiences amplifying the voice of 10 change-making young women from around the world. The films, launched in celebration of International Day of the Girl on October 11, help shine a light on the role smarter technology plays in furthering their missions to drive empathy and positive change in society.

Credit for making the project an inspirational success goes to the brave women and Lenovo’s collaborators in the project — Girl Up, the gender equality initiative of the United Nations Foundation (UNF), and award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay. Yet, it should be noted that Lenovo’s ThinkReality had a small, but significant, role to play as well.

New Realities was conceived and executed as an immersive experience for audiences using 360-degree filmmaking and VR technology. Lenovo sent Mirage VR S3 headsets to over 100 journalists and influencers around the world so they could experience the films as intended by the director and the protagonists.

Why is it important to experience the films in full VR? Because studies show that audiences perceiving content through VR are 4X more focused and 3.75X more emotionally connected.[i] Smarter technology helps achieve learning and empathy among users.

Lenovo built the Mirage VR S3, an enterprise-quality VR headset with a focus on ease of use, because not everyone is a VR expert. The New Realities audience using the Mirage VR S3 could take the headset right out of the box and quickly be transported to a Brazilian favela, an Indian tea plantation, and the streets of Paris and Detroit — seeing the realities of women working to make a positive impact in our world .

Managing content and devices with the ThinkReality platform is also nearly just as easy. The Lenovo ThinkReality platform lets users manage devices remotely and securely – regardless of where they are. Through a dashboard, you can distribute applications, update headsets, and share content. For the New Realities audience, headsets were sent out all over the world, and the movies were immediately downloaded when users turned them on and connected to the Internet through wi-fi.

Without ThinkReality, the alternative would have been to spend hours laboriously side-loading the content individually to each headset — hardly a smart solution any enterprise or institution would want to choose. This is the ThinkReality difference, we help make new realities easier to build and scale throughout the enterprise, so our customers can create the experiences they need to change their world. Smarter technology for all is how we envision tomorrow.

New White Paper from Emteq: Improving Emotional & Psychological Well-being using Virtual Reality

Meet emteq and learn more at our VRARA Training Summit on Dec 3!

Virtual Reality (VR) is showing great promise in the areas of training and therapy, yet there is still untapped opportunity in clinical, professional, educational and vocational settings. VR has the potential to go further, to deliver more powerful, longer-lasting benefits to more participants and patients across a broader section of use cases and conditions. This paper explores some of those opportunities.

VR technologies have already demonstrated that multi-sensory immersive experiences can facilitate deep perceptual and emotional connections between the user and the virtual environment, and that this can deliver outstanding results in both training and therapy environments.

Compared with traditional training approaches, including on-line and in-person sessions, training providers see that VR delivers significant improvements to participants’ experiences and the learning outcomes. VR is proving to deliver impressive advancements in key learning metrics such as reductions in learning time, increased information recall and greater confidence in applying the learnings to the real world.

In therapeutic settings, VR is enabling powerful and innovative treatments for some of the most prevalent and important mental health issues our societies face today. Additionally, immersive technologies are helping practitioners overcome one of the biggest barriers to treatment, by enabling patients to undergo therapy remotely, in their own homes.

Whilst Virtual Reality is making truly ground-breaking progress in these scenarios, there is an important missing element – emotional feedback.

The power of VR to create emotional and empathetic connections for the user provides tremendous opportunity for the treatment of mental health conditions and in meeting the surging demand for rapid, effective learning and development programmes. Through VR and immersive technologies powerful positive experiences can be created that excite, stimulate, guide, cure, and educate more effectively than traditional tried-and-tested approaches.

Emotional feedback is poised to play an important role within immersive and virtual experiences. The ability to understand an individual’s specific emotional reaction to any given VR experience can help guide the amount of stimulation, exposure or challenge that they are presented with, in real-time, making the experience more engaging, memorable and transferable.

This paper investigates the current trends in global mental health, with specific emphasis on the impact of COVID-19 in both organisations and therapeutic settings. It looks at the mental health, training and remote working challenges corporations, business, institutions and therapists face today, highlighting how Virtual Reality is being used in these settings, and how the addition of an emotional feedback element could create even more opportunities for VR in training and therapy sessions.
